cool ways to care

CNN.com now has a section devoted to ways you can "impact your world." You can search according to those issues that are most personal to you (health, poverty, etc.) and find ways to get involved by following the links.

Also stumbled onto kiva today, a site where you can give a small loan to individuals in developing countries who are trying to get a business off the ground. Even small loans like $100 can really help individuals create a sustainable business that will offer them a better life. Everything is done through paypal, so it's fairly easy. And once again, you can choose the country and the type of business you want to loan to, according to your personal preferences. When the money is paid back, you can just send it to another individual and keep the goodwill going.

this new idea of "micro finance" is so fascinating (that's what the kiva site sounds like). i have to admit that i don't know much about it but from what i do know, i hope it catches on. the whole concept seems like such a win-win situation.
