suing Rumsfeld...

CNN reports here that the Center for Constitutional Rights (a U.S. group) is suing Rumsfeld and others in a German court. Naturally, this will lead nowhere, as the article points out.

It does beg the following question, though: If we had tried to sue Saddam Hussein before going to war, would it have strengthened our case for war? Naturally, Hussein would not have shown up to face a law suit regarding crimes against humanity. Neither will Rumsfeld. But would that fact give the U.S. and other countries more reason to march into Iraq and remove him? At the very least, would it not have been worth waiting a little while and bringing the lawsuit, just to show that the U.S., as a nation, prefers peaceful means to bringing about justice, rather than violent ones?
